What is hypnobirth?

Definition of hypnobirthing
The word hypnobirthing, which was originally used by Michelle Leclaire O'Neill in 1987
describes preparation for birth using a variety of techniques.
These include self hypnosis, visualisation, positive affirmations and calm breathing techniques.
There are many different hypnobirthing providers and the way of learning hypnobirthing can vary
so it is important to find the way that most suits you.
How can hypnobirth help you?
Hypnobirth works well with whatever type of birth you choose to have.
It will allow you to get much needed rest and relaxation during your pregnancy,
and help you feel confident about the birth.
As you will be more relaxed during the birth of your baby, you will be working with your own natural birthing instincts.
Endorphins (the body's own natural pain relievers) will be able to work effectively, reducing the need for pain relief.
Because you are working with your body and 'going with the flow' you can feel much more
in control and empowered during the birth.
This encourages a quicker postnatal recovery for mum and better start for baby.
Hypnobirthing encourages partners to become involved, helping them feel more prepared and included.
